Fluoride

A fluoride electrode can be used to determine the number of fluoride ions in a solution. Since fluoride in the form of minerals is important for the human body and fluoride is already added to many foods (table salt, drinking water, milk, etc.) (fluoridation), the fluoride content of foods is of particular interest. Since fluoride poisoning is also possible if the intake is too high, fluoride measurements are a good way to maintain one’s health.

Another application of fluoride is as a flux in melting in metallurgy.
